Peter and the Andromedan Wolf

Peter and the Andromedan Wolf
- John Davis (2012)
an adaptation of Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev (1936)
It was an unusually cool winter morning in Henderson, Nevada, as Sergei was preparing for work. Sergei's grandson, Peter, had no school that day, so Sergei offered to pick him up and take him to work with him. Peter absolutely loves learning about aliens. He recently had a lecture in his science class about the possibility of an inhabitable planet in the Andromeda galaxy.

For some reason, the security at Area 51 had no problem with Sergei bringing Peter to work that day. Peter soon had learned why and was dismayed when he found out that there were indeed no aliens at Area 51. It was merely a testing facility for military weaponry.

To his surprise, Peter finds a strange duck locked away in a cage in a lab. The lab is locked tightly and there is no way in without the proper biological identification. So, he waits as a scientist approaches the door.

"Hey, you must be Sergei's grandson," the man says.

"Mhm. My name is Peter," he replies.

The man attempts to dismiss him from the area, kindly saying, "I think he was looking for you. He said he wanted you to see his latest project."

Peter then says, "Okay! I will be sure to go to him right away!"

Peter, really curious about this duck, acts as if he is walking away, as the man unlocks the lab door to go in. Before the door can shut, Peter slips in behind him unnoticed. He is amazed at all of the equipment surrounding him and he stops for a brief moment, looking around the room. Careful to not get caught, he quickly slides behind a table near where the duck is locked away. He eyes the cage, wondering how he can get a hold of this duck and notices the key is still in the lock. He then quickly reaches up and unlocks the cage and pulls out the duck and smiles as he begins petting him.

Just then, he can hear his grandfather around the corner outside of the lab asking someone where he went. He quickly jumps up, being careful not to be noticed by the scientist and walks out the door just before his grandfather walks around the corner.

"There you are! I've been looking for you," Sergei exclaims. "You shouldn't run off like that. Come here, I want to show you what I've been working on."

Peter, stunned, had the duck hidden behind his back, and just then, the duck jumps from his hands and walks off behind him. Sergei did not notice. In an effort to go after the duck, Peter replies, "Grandfather, I am sorry. I was looking for the restroom and got lost."

Sergei points in the direction behind Peter and tells him, "it's right down that hallway and to the left. After you are done, please hurry back."

Peter quickly runs off in search for the duck. He looks to the left in the direction of the restrooms and does not see it. He looks to the right and sees a shadow. His face lights up as he goes to grab the duck. Instead of a duck, he sees something much larger. Peter's jaw drops as he looks up to see this strange canine figure.

"Dok mktir pol srah tir na di'nori," is uttered from the figure.

Peter screams as he is snatched up by this strange dog. Sergei, along with others, heard this scream and quickly went running. They were headed off by a scientist who was running towards them who yelled, "Get out of here! Go the other way! That wolf we found the other day has escaped!"

It turns out that this wolf was not one from Earth, it was actually from a planet in the Andromeda galaxy. The wolf is the dominant species on that planet.

It has been 10 years now, and Sergei still wonders what happened to Peter and that wolf. He will never realize that his grandson was transported that day to the planet with that wolf. Peter currently resides in a facility in a remote desert location there called E'ktar 51; on a lab table being tested.
